Pelsall School project

Over the course of this 4 day project I worked with children from years 1 and 2 to explore the theme of 'Global Garden'. We used pictures of wildlife and garden plants to inspire us, and the children looked at the particle article creatures. The children created insects, birds and plants using recycled materials, which the children and their families helped to collect, such as plastic bottles, fabric, and wire. We used these in new and exciting ways to explore the children's ideas. Have a look at the photos above to see the great work the children produced!

Opening of Castle Vale Children's Centre

3rd March saw the official opening of Castle Vale childrens centre. I was asked to run a workshop throughout the day and ask each visitor (adults and children) to design a square of copper or pewter, embossing it with a design significant to them. The pieces were to be combined to create a plaque to commemorate the opening. It went really well, everyone making fantastic contributions, eg local midwife drew a pregnant lady, local policeman drew some handcuffs. The lord mayor drew a heart design to symbolise his love of the area. The plaque is now displayed at the school entrance.

Creativity Matters Project
We were involved in a creative project at Castle Vale Nursery School from September 08 to March 09. The purpose of the project was to see if we could develop children’s creativity and encourage them to interact, using an Italian model called the Reggio Approach. The children explored found objects as well as new, exciting materials. They placed the objects to make collages, made drawings on plastic and fabrics, made wire sculptures, and experimented with transparent materials and light. The sessions were based upon children’s own interests.
Everyone enjoyed the project and concentrated really well! It was exciting to see the children finding new ways of exploring materials, using their imagination, and expressing themselves so well.

Tales From the Electric Forest

If you are a fan of our more sinister work then you should definately go and see this exhibition which is in London at the Crypt gallery, right by Euston station! I have featured above one of the creatures who is going to be there, the 'Ruthless Reccession Reaper', who is made from a dried frog, dragonfly wings and a birds skull amongst other things!
The exhibition runs from the 22nd May until the 1st June.
Brewery Workshops
I realise I am backtracking a bit...but really wanted to share with you some of the work which has been produced at our workshops. These are from our childrens workshop last year at the Brewery arts centre in Kendal. Above are our favourites!
Our work is still on display here in the cafe, so if you are passing you can pop in and see them!
